Differences in Steel Profiles I, WF, and H
The WF (Wide Flange) profile is one of the most popular structural steel profiles used for steel construction. However, this profile has many names. Some call it the profiles H, HWF, H-BEAM, IWF, and I. There are even some places that use the terms WH, SH, and MH. Which one is most appropriate?

If I want to find the most appropriate I still have to refer to the applicable standards. Well, if our reference is SNI, then we will get there some standards for the production of profile material I:
SNI 07-0329-2005, Steel I Beam Canai Heat
Image
SNI 07-2610-1992, Steel Profile H Welding With Filter
Image
SNI 07-7178-2006, Steel Profile WF Beam Canai Heat Process

(Image above I capture directly from each SNI. Please download here)
So, the difference is like the table below:
Profile I Profile WF Profile H
The making process: hot-rolled
There are 2 curves (r1, r2) The making process: hot-rolled
There is 1 arch (r1) The making process: plate + weld.
So, that's like roughly naming the most correct according to existing standards.
But ... the reality is circulating in the field a little deviant.
The actual I profile is almost rarely seen in the field. The actual H profile is also rarely the message except for a very large size or a special size.
In fact the best-selling is the WF profile. But somehow from history, WF profile in the end is often also called profile I and profile H. If profile H is still understandable, because the reference from SNI is Japanese standard (JIS). JIS itself uses the term H for WF profile. Size is the same.
